The Ronald McDonald House Charities Eastern Wisconsin (RMH) is Milwaukee, WI’s ‘home away from home’ for families while their children are receiving medical treatment at local hospitals. Staff from Kinsa Group and ABR Employment Services (Kinsa Group’s parent company) recently volunteered for the ‘Family Meal Program’. This program allows families to enjoy a meal after spending the day with their child at the hospital.

According to RMH, the most commonly served meals are lasagna, tacos, pasta, chicken noodle soup and macaroni and cheese. As professionals in the food and beverage industry, Kinsa Group knew that fare would not do.

A barbeque themed dinner was planned. Kinsa and ABR staff shopped for ingredients, prepared and served dinner for 72 guest families.

Grill masters Dave Rothe and Joe Sommerfeldt prepared brats and hot dogs to perfection. Rob Navarro and Shelly Jackson orchestrated meal preparation. Pasta salad, red potato salad, baked beans, deviled eggs, and fruit cocktail salad were prepared by Tony Necci, Laleh Lomonaco and Michelle Kamin. Peach cobbler, vanilla ice cream, rice krispy treats, brownies and oatmeal cookies were prepared by Mary Chambers, Laurie Hyllberg, Jennifer Zahari and Joe Jackson. Nancy Furgason and Karen Engelmann joined in to set up the dining room, serve and clean up.

Laurie Hyllberg, Vice President of Kinsa Group remarked, “So many families have been supported by the generosity and support of the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Spending day after day at the hospital, carrying around the burden of worry and being away from home for long periods of time is unimaginable. We are thankful for this opportunity to provide a home cooked meal for these guest families.”

The Ronald McDonald House never turns away families unable to pay. The suggested donation is that families pay $20 a night. The actual operating cost to house a family is $114 a night. We invite you to consider donating to the Ronald McDonald House to ensure that these families will continue to have a “home away from home.” Thank you.
